FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do DSLR Slate and 3D Slate ask to use my location?

A: DSLR Slate and 3D Slate use your location to add GPS data to the Quick Burst sequence.  This data includes Latitude, Longitude, and Altitude.  We do not collect or use this data in any means whatsoever.

Q: Can I add a custom field to the Quick Burst sequence?

A: Yes!  There are two custom fields that you can name whatever you like and input whatever you want.

Q: Can I save presets to load commonly used sets of data?

A: Yes! There are 2 presets that you can save and load at any time, and their names are fully editable.

Q: Can I change the date format displayed on the Slate Screen from MM/DD/YYYY to DD/MM/YYYY?

A: Yes!  There is a toggle switch just below the date on the slate screen.

Q: Can I increment the take field without leaving the Slate Screen?

A: Yes! There is a lock icon next to the Take field on the Slate Screen.  You can tap to unlock and increment up, down or reset to 1.  It will auto unlock after every time you run the Quick Burst sequence.

Q: Can I reset or add a custom the timecode on the Slate Screen?

A: No, currently the timecode is generated by the device’s internal clock and cannot be controlled.

Q: Can I use DSLR Slate or 3D Slate to sync timecode with cameras, audio devices, or LTE Generators?

A: No, DSLR Slate’s timecode is currently a one way road.  It only displays the running timecode based off the device’s internal clock and cannot be used to communicate or sync timecode with other devices.

Q: Can I customize what fields are displayed during the Quick Burst display?

A: No, the Quick Burst sequence is hard coded in the app to run through every input field during the Quick Burst display.  This means that you cannot pick and choose which items are shown in the Quick Burst display.

Q: Does DSLR Slate or 3D Slate keep a log of shots as you slate them?

A: 3D Slate implements our new robust notes and logging system.  The system adds a log entry every time you tap the START button, this will log ALL of your data.  After the Quick Burst Sequence, you will be asked if you want to add a note to the slate you just ran, this will add a note to the end of the current log entry.  You can clear out your log or email it to yourself as a Plain Text (.txt) or Spreadsheet (.csv) file.  DSLR Slate will be receiving the same notes and logging system in it’s next update.

Q: DSLR Slate and 3D Slate run very sluggish on my 1st or 2nd Gen iPhone or iPod Touch.  Why?

A: We officially do not support these 1st or 2nd Gen devices any longer. These devices have much slower processors and significant memory limitations when compared to the newer devices.  With a running timecode and our unique Quick Burst display, the devices simply cannot keep up.  If you payed for the app, you own it.  That means whenever you decide to upgrade to a newer device, the app will perform the way it was meant to.  We apologize for this, but cannot justify “dumbing” the app down in order to support very old devices.  If you purchased the app and would like a refund, you can contact the iTunes Store support team and they will help you with your request.
